<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">I recently
attended a screening of the movie Bridge</span><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;"> of Spies. What a great story of an
overlooked American hero. James Donovan believably portrayed by Tom Hanks will be Oscar nominated for his fine performance.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: 'Courier New'; font-size: 12pt;">Last night I attended a preview screening of the movie </span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New'; font-size: 12pt; font-weight: 600;">No Escape</span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New'; font-size: 12pt;">, and it was great. </span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New'; font-size: 12pt; font-weight: 600;">No Escape</span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New'; font-size: 12pt;"> is a nail biting, action thriller. An American family relocates to Southeast Asia for a job opportunity, and find themselves caught in the middle of a war zone and coup. The couple Jack and Annie, played by Owen Wilson and Lake Bell, frantically search for an escape from the out of control violence that plaques the city, with their two daughters in tow. On the plane trip to Asia they meet Hammond, well played by Pierce Brosnan, a mysterious yet friendly man who turns out to be a heroic government operative.</span></div>
<div style="text-indent: 36px;">
<span style="font-family: 'Courier New'; font-size: 12pt;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-indent: 36px;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;">What I enjoyed most about this film was the tight script, it </span>delivered<span style="font-size: 12pt;"> laser focus on the family’s escape from the danger zone. The screenplay was written by brothers John Erick Dowdle and Drew Dowdle, and directed by John Erick Dowdle. The story was believable and the acting was very good. The rooftop scene were Jack throws his daughters off the building to his wife on an adjacent roof, was </span>terrifying<span style="font-size: 12pt;"> and terrifically shot and acted. The children Lucy and Beeze, played by Sterling Jerins, and Claire Geare did an excellent job.</span></span></div>
<div style="text-indent: 36px;">
<span style="font-family: 'Courier New'; font-size: 12pt;">You’ll be on the edge of your seat during the non-stop </span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New'; font-size: 12pt; font-weight: 600;">No Escape</span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New'; font-size: 12pt;"> thrill ride.</span></div>

has a problem most women would gladly welcome – she’s stopped aging at 29. There’s
no miracle moisturizer involved, instead a scientific phenomenon occurred when
she suffered a terrible car accident and drowned, where she lost and regained consciousness.
She soon realizes the down side to not aging when the authorities question her
age when she’s forced to show her driver’s license to police, the FBI wants to
study her, she fears being probed and used as a Guinea pig, so she runs away
and changes her name every ten years for eight decades. While working as a
librarian, she stays away from romantic involvements, until she meets the
handsome artist and philanthropist Ellis Jones. Then she meets his family, and
her secret is revealed.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 115%;">It was
interesting to see Adaline at different points in time, always around the same age, especially where her
daughter was considerably older than she was. The storyline with her dog was very
touching, and showed us the emotional turmoil the character experienced all her life. It’s a nice love story with a scientific angle that gets left
behind. The ending is bit contrived and predictable, but overall I enjoyed the
story and would recommend it. Good performances by the cast: Blake Lively as
Adaline and Michiel Huisman as Ellis and Harrison Ford is great as Ellis’
father, and Ellen Burstyn as Flemming, Adaline’s daughter</span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 11pt; line-height: 115%;">.</span>Carolyn Gibbshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10157272831521007204noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6542345448848681460.post-44219632141373715632015-01-13T21:12:00.002-05:002015-01-13T21:12:48.403-05:00A Winner was Chosen!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

success. Everyone raised their champagne glasses, ringing in the New Year. After
an hour of dancing and drinking the crowd thinned out, and one by one they went
on their way, just like at Times Square, which magically empties out after the

displayed under the tree that was just for decoration. Where did it come from?
She walked over to the box and picked it up. There was a gift tag tucked
underneath the bow, she immediately recognized the handwriting, it was from
Kevin. She looked around, she was alone. She carefully pulled off the ribbon
and opened the box. Inside was a note,<i>
You never know when you might need this. </i>She smiled as she pulled out a
small flashlight attached to a rope chain, just like the one Kevin used to get
them out of the woods last week when they stayed too out too long. A blanket of
warmth wrapped around her and settled in her heart as she recalled chiding him for
his collection of flashlights. Her heart beat faster remembering how he held
her hand securely and lead the way with his trusty little flashlight. Damn it,
she didn’t want to but maybe she was falling for him… again. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

I'm so happy to be participating in the Spring Fling Blog Hop. Thank you Laurie for arranging the hop. I live in New York City, and like the rest of the country we're ready to say farewell to the freezing cold winter and endless snow storms. We're ready for spring, and what better way to celebrate the season than with a blog hop, where we can pick up some exciting new reads to go along with our new light and bright spring clothes.<br />

My newest release, Murder in Paradise is a romantic suspense set in Hawaii. It features an author who makes a grim discover while attending a conference in Hawaii. She's busy trying to solve a murder and fight the growing attraction to her writing partner, the talented and sexy Sam Stewart. Murder in Paradise recently received a four star review from <a href="http://issuu.com/btsemag/docs/mar-apr_2014/32" target="_blank">BTS eMag</a>.<br />

Welcome to my blog and the My Writing Process Blog Tour.
First I would like to thank author Jeanine McAdam who tagged me in her blog
post last week. Jeanine is a fellow Secret Cravings author and we’re also
members of the RWA/NYC Chapter, she writes fantastic sexy cowboy stories with a
lot of heart.</div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="text-indent: -0.25in;">I’m currently working on a
women’s fiction type story with a romantic edge. It’s about a woman who’s made
a name for herself as a travel photographer and now has to return home to run
her mother’s B&B. As soon as she drives up she is faced with the one person,
who’s kept her away from home for so long, an old flame she’s never gotten over
who’s doing the renovations on the inn. </span><span style="text-indent: -0.25in;"> </span><span style="text-indent: -0.25in;">Any
big problem she has is that she can’t cook, and that’s not good when you’re
faced with running a B&B. She has the support of friends and family to help
her along. I’m picturing this as a series, its set in a small town in upstate
New York.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="text-indent: -0.25in;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="text-indent: -0.25in;"><b>How does my work differ from others of its
genre?</b> </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="text-indent: -0.25in;">I enjoy writing stories that are based on reality. I also like writing
about people that already have a connection, like reuniting old lovers, which I
did in Love and the Economy and working partners in Murder in Paradise rather
than two people who just randomly meet. I like heartfelt stories, but I also
like taking readers on an adventure, someplace they haven’t been before.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="text-indent: -0.25in;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="text-indent: -0.25in;"><b>Why do I write what I do?</b> </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="text-indent: -0.25in;">I like
writing about how a person changes their perception about their situation,
which is really how change begins. It’s encouraging and enlightening to see how
much the little things we do for each other mean to those around us, especially
our significant others. While writing Love and the Economy I enjoyed showing how the relationship changed once the heroine, Andrea, started to see things from her
ex-husband’s point of view and vice-versa.
In Murder in Paradise, the hero and heroine are authors who write together
and have become friends. They’re also of different races, but that’s not a
factor in the story, it’s just describes who they are. I have to admit that
when I created the hero Sam Stewart, visions of Nathan Fillion as Richard Castle crept into my
head. I’m a big Castle fan, but I wanted it to be a writing partnership
rather than a writer/cop relationship. In real life my fiancé and I were
partners in a job where we worked together very closely. Someday I will write a
story loosely based on it.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="text-indent: -0.25in;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="text-indent: -0.25in;"><b>How does my writing process work?</b> I start
brainstorming ideas. I usually start with a premise or sometimes the characters. It
changes depending on the story. I keep asking the “what if” question until I’m
satisfied I’ve got a feasible story that has wings. When I wrote Murder in
Paradise, I wrote a 300 word start to a story based on a picture prompt on the
Tuesday Tales blog. The picture was of a cute row boat lying on an isolated
beach. I pictured my heroine, Claire, getting out of that row boat and making
an incredible discovery on the little island, while she’s attending a writing
conference in Hawaii. I recently started using WriteWayPro, writing software to write my stories. I write each chapter and scene separately and have a place for adding in notes. </span></div>

over her fingers. In a matter of seconds Claire felt her nervous energy fade
away, and the warmth emanating from his hand spread to the rest of her body and
touched her heart. Boy, if he only knew what his touch was doing to her.
Although she’d be the first to admit she wasn’t ready for a relationship with
Sam or anyone right now, but at the same time she was so glad he was there. She
wondered about the brief moment that transpired between them a few weeks ago,
they hadn’t spoken about it since. Sam had stared at her with such passion in his
eyes, and she’d thought he was going to kiss her. The moment had passed and
nothing had happened, but she knew she would have to tread lightly from now on.
She enjoyed feeling her hand in his just the same. Why was life so complicated?</span> </span></span><br />

<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-R5YWs3I18QY/US-rqMdwrHI/AAAAAAAAAJc/Wkro9w_9sbw/s1600/recovered_67456.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="148" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-R5YWs3I18QY/US-rqMdwrHI/AAAAAAAAAJc/Wkro9w_9sbw/s200/recovered_67456.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>
Right now in my life I'm living in a smaller quarters while I figure out where I would like to live next...oh and by the way I need a job too to help me get there. So while I'm figuring all that out, I take a break from it all and delve into the fiction worlds I love to create.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qMVVQPZ3dMo/US-jdCIzQuI/AAAAAAAAAJM/9vhiASRTjio/s1600/20130219_135547.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qMVVQPZ3dMo/US-jdCIzQuI/AAAAAAAAAJM/9vhiASRTjio/s320/20130219_135547.jpg" width="320" /></a>This is my main desk and computer and where the majority of my writing takes place. I share this space with my <span style="font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; line-height: 115%;">fiancé</span>. When he's home I sometimes plug in my net book, and move to another side of the room. My cat Gizmo is laying on the power source box next the desk, one of her many daily hangouts. She likes it because it's warm, cats love the heat.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IdeIKrCO_wQ/US-kF9Q-r7I/AAAAAAAAAJU/XTBSo0QuA7A/s1600/20130226_152035.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IdeIKrCO_wQ/US-kF9Q-r7I/AAAAAAAAAJU/XTBSo0QuA7A/s320/20130226_152035.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I also enjoy writing on my AlphaSmart. It's easier to travel with than the net book, it runs on batteries only that last forever. Transferring the file to the computer is a breeze. The words appear on the screen like a magic trick. It's fun to watch, and very fast.<br />
<br />
<br />
I have tried writing in hip places like coffee shops and restaurants, but they're usually too distracting for me, sometimes I've written a quick outline of a story, but never real story writing in public. I have taken my AlphaSmart to the beach and wrote while sitting in my car looking out at the surf. That was nice. I love Jones Beach, I'm a Long Islander at heart. :)<br />
<br />
If you're a writer, where do you usually work? Do you have any alternate writing places when you need to hide out? Drop me a comment, I'd love to hear where other writers do their writing.<br />
<br />
I also have a new website where you can read an excerpt of Love and the Economy. <a href="http://www.carolyngibbsbooks.com/">http://www.carolyngibbsbooks.com/</a><br />

My Grandmother's birthday is March 12, she left us years ago, and I thought I'd pay tribute to one of the many desserts she made that I loved. One of my fondest memories growing up was visiting my Grandmother, she would always whip up my favorite dessert back then, tapioca pudding. When she didn't have time to soak the tapioca she made the Minute Tapioca, topped with her homemade whipped cream. She knew I loved tapioca and made sure to make it whenever my mother and I visited her.<br />

when Andrea Elliot thought life was getting back to normal after the divorce,
